BC101 SYMBOLS & DISTRIBUTION SEMESTER 2

___________________________________________________________
PRODUCTION WEEK 2
The votes are all in and I have to say it was incredibly close and there are still people arguing whether it was the right choice but with 18% of the vote the winner is...

Drumroll please...

Carbon Footprint - What is yours, what is the average, can you reduce it and so on and so forth.

For everyone else, jump into your groups, start doing some research and work out what you might do. How will you get it out there and what is the most important point to get across. Who is the target market and where do they frequent. Think big, we'll want to see some ideas the week after production week.

If you need an Illustrator version you can wait till it goes onto the server or you can do your own version using the pen tool - make sure it's spot on though - we don't want to send mixed messages.

Remember myself and Desiree are free to see you next week if you'd like to come and get ahead of the crowd please contact us to make an appointment. During the next auditorium session I'll show you who came 2nd, 3rd and 4th.

For now get started on your group work, don't leave it till the last week.

Good luck!

DISTRIBUTION
First a little reminder from the brief:

Part C
Distribution of symbols
Due week 17

Students are required to distribute the symbol in the public arena and document the distribution, impact it had and reflect on what could have been done differently.

This assessment is worth 25% and will be marked on the following criteria:
- Presentation ability and strength of visuals
- Distribution concept and appropriateness of idea
- Final outcome and self critique
- Response to critique of own work
___________________________________________________________
So in other words: now you have the symbol you need to work out a way to get it in front of as many people as possible to leave a positive outcome.

We're working in groups and it's up to you the amount of people per group but keep in mind - the higher the number the more work we expect exponentially. You also don't have to stick to your class, just make sure every person can be accountable for what you're up to (keep everyone in the loop.)

We expect at least this if you have the whole year in the group.

DO NOT BREAK THE LAW
This is a uni assignment, the last thing we need is someone going to jail (like me for instance) - and lets be honest there's normally a better way than breaking the law. If you do think it might annoy some people, talk to me and we'll see if we can work out another way. In the past the only trouble we've had is from groups that have left it to the last minute and not thought out the consequences. Get started early and avoid any trouble.

DO NOT DO SOMETHING DANGEROUS
Same as above but substitute die for jail.

The purpose of this assignment is to see and record what effects symbols can have on the public. There's nothing like getting out there and experiencing it first hand and if done correctly you never know where it might get you.

Recording the effects and reactions is a big part of the assignment. It's from this we'll be able to judge what worked and what we could do differently. we are looking for a positive impact that will make people consider whatever the message is.

Make sure you take pictures, audio or video that you can use in your final presentation.

Try to think of ways that people can get the message without you having to be there all the time.

GET OUT OF NORTH SYDNEY
Doing it around the school might be a good way to get your Dutch courage but you have to get out there and in front of people. Take it to the city and be the art student you've always wanted to be. You're not selling anything so most people will be receptive if its presented in the right way. Think about what reactions you're looking for and what you're likely to get.

This is due week 17 where we'll get all the groups together and look at what you all did. Each presentation should aim to be about five minutes long so start thinking about how you'll make a good impact on the audience within that time. iMovie is incredibly easy to use so it might be worth thinking about that.

LOSE YOUR INHIBITIONS AND HAVE SOME FUN
That's an order.

THIS WEEK
I want to know who's in which group and start talking to each group about what initial ideas you might have. Think about what you already know or who you already know. Is there anybody that you know that is already in

NEXT WEEK
I want to see a time-line leading up to week 17 (week by week) including time for putting the presentation together.
